photo 2photo 4During the half term week, 25 families from the LS29 group were lucky enough to go on an overnight visit to Blackpool.

The trip, which was partly funded by the Ilkley Carnival Committee, enabled the children and their parents/carers to take part in a whole new range of experiences, which many families said they simply would not have taken part in, if it had not been for the LS29 group.

One member said, ‘it is not just about the financial support the group is able to offer which is really appreciated, but also giving us the confidence to go to places we simply would not dare to try on our own.  It was so reassuring to meet other families in the same situation, and know that we were all there to offer each other help and encouragement when needed, without judging situations’.

The children had a wonderful time, with some families choosing to explore the Pleasure Beach, others going to the swimming pool, the circus, take a ride on the trams, or just walking along the sea front and spending time with friends.

It was also really good fun for siblings, with one child saying what a good time they had just being able to do ‘normal’ things that other teenagers get chance to do.  There were many smiling faces, and the feedback we received from this trip, was one of the most positive we have ever received.

One parent contacted us to say, ‘after a difficult few weeks with our child, the trip to Blackpool was a complete tonic.  The opportunity for him to relax and have fun, and us to spend time with other families who know just how tough it can be was invaluable’.

Thank you once again to our supporters for funding this trip.
